All international visitors to Virginia Tech need to follow specific processes for their visit to be approved.
If you're a citizen of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program, apply for an ESTA form.
If your country doesn't participate in the VWP, you'll need to apply for a U.S. B-1 Tourist Visa.
The VWP enables most citizens from participating countries to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business without obtaining a Visa. You must have a valid e-passport to participate in the VWP, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection determines final eligibility.
All international visitors from countries that do NOT participate in the VWP, are responsible for arranging a B-1 Tourist Visa. In order to receive a B-1 Visa, you'll need a personalized invitation letter from Virginia Tech.
This process will take at least two weeks, so be sure to follow all directions, as outlined below, as early as possible. We recommend that you send us these items as soon as you've completed registration for the conference.
Once these items are emailed to us, named correctly, with all required information, we will submit them to Virginia Tech for approval. Once your visit to the USA is approved by Virginia Tech, we will personalize and fill out an "Invitation Letter for International Visitors" and send it to you.
International attendees of the 32nd IAPRI Member's Conference in Roanoke Virginia will need this personalized invitation letter in order to receive a B-1 Tourist Visa.
AGAIN, the Virginia Tech approval process will take at least two weeks from the date you send in all of the correct paperwork, so be sure to turn in your Compliance Form and CV early in order to avoid paperwork causing travel delays or issues.
We cannot submit improperly named or incomplete forms! Any items that are turned in, without properly following all three steps above, will not be processed and may be deleted without notice to you, so be sure everything is correctly named, fully completed, and in the proper format before submitting.
